14 months

Every day she looks more and more like a little girl and less and less like a baby. It just seems crazy to me that she is a toddler now.

This month's milestones:
* Taking independent steps..she's slowed down a little bit in practicing, but I know she can still do it
* Her right lower lateral inscisor and right lower molar have broken the skin. She now has 11 teeth.
* Her favorite "word" right now is mamamamama. Especially when she is upset.
* Her other favorite "word" is "ba", which means something like "here you go" or "I want that"
* She has started pointing at things that she wants, which is helpful, sometimes
* She has starting grabbing my hands and putting them over her face when she wants to play peek-a-boo
* She spent an entire night away from both me and Todd while we attended a wedding and her reaction when I walked in the door afterward made my week
* She swung in her first oustdoor swing and went down a slide for the first time. She wasn't too sure about the swing, but she LOVED the slide
* She can sit down in a chair and get out of it safely

She loves her PBK chair

Our world is about to change

After much debating, we bought Aubrey a PB Kids Anywhere chair. She loves climbing on the couch and hanging out so we thought she'd like having a chair she could crawl on and off of on her own. As soon as we put her on it was love at first sit. She crawled on and off that chair all evening. We noticed when she would slide out of the chair, she would stand for a few seconds on her own and we were pretty impressed with that. But, she decided that wasn't enough amazement so she took 2 whole steps on her own. It was so exciting and our clapping and cheering scared the mess out of her. She tried again a few more times, but she would get so excited she would fall face forward before she ever lifted the 2nd foot. I really hope she can make progress pretty fast because it is getting so nice outside and it is going to be so much fun to chase her around the backyard. Now, just remind me of this excitement in a few months when I am screaming about how much I am chasing her around!

Signs of the season

I get a lovely call from the day care yesterday around 4:15 (my heart still races when I see that number on caller ID) asking me if Aubrey has allergies. Um, no, she's 13 months old, is that possible? The teacher proceeds to tell me when Aubrey woke up from her nap, her eyes were matted shut with gunk. Great... I told her they were a little gross that morning, but not a big deal. She says no kids have had pink eye lately, but that's really what it looks like. Even freakin better. Since it was so late in the day, I told them Todd would be there soon to get her and I'd check it out when I got home. Todd picks her up and calls me and says her eyelids are pretty swollen and watery. When I get home, it amazes me how puffy her eyes were. And watery was an understatement. There was all kinds of nastiness coming out of her eyes by this point and I was a little worried. She didn't act like they bothered her, but it just looked awful. So, we get up this morning and her eyes weren't nearly as puffy, but her eye lashes were full of gunk. Not cool. And she had dark red circles under her eyes, so I knew I had to take her to the doctor. I scheduled the appointment and off we went. Her doctor asked 2 questions before handing out the dreaded diagnosis: ALLERGIES. Freakin' fantastic. So, she loaded us up with some samples before sending us on our merry way. So now we have to try out various kinds of meds to see which works best or which she will take best. I am pretty frustrated at this point because I hate knowing what she may have to deal with the rest of her life. Todd has pretty yucky allergies and I hate knowing she might be that miserable. Hopefully these meds can work and we can minimize the effects on her.
